I've been thinking about why some ideas soar, while others don't get off the ground, don't reach their potential, or spiral and crash.
By 'ideas' I mean projects, products, businesses, initiatives. Over the years I've been involved in many—sometimes with skin in the game, other times helping start-ups, small businesses, or bigger organisations bring ideas to life.
Some that failed I truly believed in, others had signals that they were destined to dive from the outset.
It’s led to a working theory that ideas have the best chance of success when four things are in place:
LEGITIMACY: A problem worth solving, or opportunity worth pursuing.
INVESTMENT: Real commitment—time, money and belief.
FORCE: The machine and team to power and sustain momentum.
TRAJECTORY: A clear direction and idea of what success looks like along the way.
